Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall students took to the Mankiw Theater stage on February 21st, 22nd, and 23rd in their winter production of Shrek The Musical. Devon West, from the class of 2022, was a member of the Cast and played the role of Pinocchio.
Set in a mythical "once upon a time" land, Shrek The Musical is a fairy tale of adventure, unexpected love, friendship, and self-discovery.
Shrek The Musical serves as the first CH-CH theatre production to take place in the new Visual and Performing Arts Center on campus. Opening its doors only last week, the $5.5M renovation has transformed a historic 19th-century Waltham barn into a 22,000 square foot, cutting edge center for the arts.
"It's easy to relate to a story like Shrek's, or like any other character's in this production because when all is said and done, it's about finding trust in yourself and those around you," said Theatre Program Director Bekah LaCoste. "There is no bigger reward for me than to see these students feel great when they make bold choices, to cheer for each other from offstage when a soloist hits a big note, and to support each other no matter what."
The theatre department will soon begin working on the production of their spring play. For more information on CH-CH and their performing arts department, visit www.chch.org.
